The Woodford County personnel committee on Monday recommended that finalists for the county road supervisor position be interviewed in a committee-of-the-whole meeting on Monday, March 16 at 1 p.m., and voted to forward a personnel order to the full fiscal court.
The judge said screening interviews last week included Magistrate Jackie Brown, Gail Smith from the road department and Terresa Typton, the human-resources manager. He asked committee members to submit names of candidates they want advanced by Thursday so candidates can be notified. "That could be as many as five and as few as three interviews," he said, adding the session would likely run two to three hours.
The county attorney advised the committee that the applicable succession statute ties the road-supervisor term to the second Tuesday in January of odd-numbered years and permits only two- or four-year terms. He told members that an initial hire made this year would likely result in either "one year and eight months or three years and eight months" as the initial term so the successor fiscal court would have the expected opportunity to fill the office. The committee voted to recommend the personnel order for approval by the fiscal court (motion by Squire Carl; second by Squire Gentry).
Committee members also received brief updates that the animal-control officer position remains open and that the road-department reorganization will be considered alongside the supervisor hire so the incoming supervisor has authority to retain or hire staff.
The committee adjourned its personnel session and reconvened as the budget and finance committee to take up other items.
