School committee approves Maine Maritime field trip, updates rules and elects officers

Travis Finny, a junior ROTC instructor at Lewiston High School, requested approval to take 20 cadets to Maine Maritime Academy for an overnight leadership program that includes water activities and panels. Member Jensen moved approval and Member Gant seconded; after questions about chaperones, lifeguards and permission slips, the committee approved the trip by roll call (recorded as 9–0). Finny said permission slips had been signed and that students who could not swim would not participate in open swim.
The committee also reviewed and voted to adopt updated procedural rules to reflect the addition of a vice chair and clarify temporary chair provisions; Member Herd moved the adoption and Member Bowden seconded the motion, which passed by roll call (9–0).
Finally, the committee confirmed officer appointments. Elizabeth Emmes was nominated for the legislative liaison role (no vote required). The committee appointed Member Jensen as parliamentarian (motion seconded; roll call 9–0) and Janet Bowden as vice chair (motion by Member Herd, seconded by Member Jensen; roll call 9–0).
These votes were procedural and carried unanimously. No public comment opposed any of the items.
