The Hudsonville City Commission voted to award the Highland Drive lift station reconstruction contract to Jackson Berkeley Contractors for $714,883.
Commission discussion described the Highland Drive station as the highest-priority lift station from the city's asset-management plan because of the potential consequence of failure. Staff explained the existing station is an older vacuum-prime design that requires frequent maintenance and that the planned replacement is a traditional submersible-pump station with a new above-grade control panel. Staff said the project will keep the old station in service until the new station is commissioned to avoid any service disruption and that a portable diesel pump and quick-connect hoses will be available for bypass if needed.
The commission recorded an affirmative roll-call vote to award the contract and authorized staff to proceed with project coordination; a spring groundbreaking was anticipated "as soon as weather conditions really allow," staff said. The city confirmed funds are available in current operations and capital allocations and does not expect a separate budget amendment for the award at this time.
The contract amount and project schedule are subject to final permitting and coordination with Ottawa County and other utilities, and staff said they would return with any required contract documents or change orders for commission approval.
