The Dearborn Heights City Council on March 24, 2026 voted to go into a closed session to discuss two pending legal claims and then returned to open session and adjourned.
Councilman Saab moved that the council enter a closed session at 5:34 p.m. "so the city council may discuss legal cases of Haven pots claim number 25501829 and Adrien Chestnut claim number 2600105," and said the closed session could include the mayor, clerk, chief of staff and corporation counsel. The motion was seconded by Councilman Robert Conston. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote; members recorded as voting yes included Hassan Amad (listed as Hassan Ahmad later in the roll call), Nancy Brier, Robert Conston, Margaret King, Hassan Sab (identified in the transcript as President) and Tom Wenzo. The motion carried and the council left for closed session.
The council returned to open session later the same evening. Councilman Saab moved to reconvene the open meeting at 5:59 p.m.; Councilwoman King seconded the motion, and the council approved it by voice vote. After resuming public session, Councilman Saab moved to adjourn the special meeting; that motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The clerk announced the meeting adjourned at 5:59 p.m.
The record notes the two claims by name and number as provided to the council; no additional details about the claims or any formal action taken in closed session were disclosed in the public record of the meeting. The agenda items for public comment, council comments and announcements were called and no members of the public spoke during the public comment periods recorded in the transcript.
