At the March 19 meeting, city staff briefed the Equity and Empowerment Commission on outreach for the commission's equity scorecard survey and recommended steps to boost participation.
Assistant Deputy Manager Tashik reported responses rose from 7 to 27 and said, "To have a representative sample of the Evanston population, you'll need like 350 responses." Staff outlined outreach tactics including QR-code flyers, paper quarter-sheet flyers to place on council meeting chairs (pending permission), iPads as a backup at in-person events, and inclusion of the survey link in council newsletters.
Commissioners volunteered to staff upcoming community events and council/ward meetings (including a March 25 "Putting Assets to Work" community meeting and a March 26 fifth-ward meeting) to circulate the survey. They also agreed staff would circulate a flyer with a QR code and help coordinate permission requests for distribution at council meetings.
Staff also reported the equity scorecard dashboard is now available online and suggested commissioners review it ahead of presentations where the scorecard may inform questions or recommendations.
Next steps: staff will share QR-code flyers and coordinate volunteers for upcoming events; commissioners will report back to the commission on outreach results at the next meeting.
