Committee approves consent agenda of parks and recreation contracts, concessions and donations

The Community and Emergency Services Committee approved a broad consent agenda of recreation, concessions and small contracts that county staff presented as routine renewals and new contractor agreements.

Items approved included donations totaling $200 to Animal Services (two $100 donations), an annual lease renewal with Columbia County Cares, the eighth renewal of the Convention and Visitors Bureau contract, a new senior center ceramics instructor contract (Patricia Essi, $20/hour, up to 24 hours/week), and contracts with Ignite Soccer Academy and multiple tennis instructors under an 80/20 revenue split (county retains 20%). Staff said contractors handle primary marketing and that the county supports promotion through social media.

The committee also renewed a management agreement with the Professional Disc Golf Association for Wildwood Park (management fee about $1,000/month), a glamping renewal covering six sites that generates about $37,000 annually, and water-sports and bike rental contracts at Wildwood and Savannah Rapids parks (including an arrangement of 7% gross for certain rentals; bicycle rental flat fee $375/month; staff said approximately 400–500 bike rentals occur annually). Several commissioners asked how the public learns about contractor-provided programs; staff said contractors promote the programs and the county supplements promotion via social media.
