Public Works Director Matt Ames told the board an in-depth non-revenue-water (NRW) investigation identified causes including faulty meters and billing gaps; as part of collection efforts the village plans to begin turning off water on June 1 for accounts owing roughly $100 or more, starting with the largest balances.
Ames said the village had provided two months’ notice in water bills and that the initial plan was to start cutoffs May 1 but the administration extended notice so residents would have time to prepare. He said roughly 120 properties have outstanding balances that collectively approach $500,000 in unpaid water charges.
When trustees asked about payment arrangements, Village Administrator Latisa Jones said staff handle requests case-by-case and work with residents to set payment plans based on income and available partner resources (PLCA, CEDA). She urged residents to contact the administrator’s office to avoid shutoff or to request accommodations.
No vote was taken; the discussion outlined an implementation plan and communications effort ahead of the scheduled June 1 start of shutoffs.
