The Belvidere City Council voted unanimously at a special meeting on June 9 to adopt ordinance 720H, annexing territory south of US Business Route 20 and east of Distillery Road (the area between Distillery Road and Beaver Valley Road) into Belvidere.
The council first voted to waive the two‑week layover required by section 2‑87G of the city code; the clerk then conducted a roll‑call vote on the ordinance itself. Mayor and staff said the annexation had been in process for an extended period and that prompt action was needed to advance related projects on Distillery Road.
Council members said the annexation would help move a long‑running project forward and thanked staff for work on the file. The ordinance was presented as first and second reading during the special meeting and was adopted following the vote.
