Northern Cambria superintendent reports elevated moisture, repair plan for new gym floor

The Northern Cambria School District’s superintendent, Dr. Bradley, reported that contractors and the owner’s representative identified areas of concern in the district’s new gym floor that need remediation before new flooring can be installed.

Dr. Bradley said three moisture test sites were drilled in the problem area. “Two of those test sites are within those tolerance levels ... One in the central site is still not registering where the manufacturer of the floor and the installer of the floor want it to be. So it is at 91%; it needs to be at 85%,” he said. The current contractor and owner representative—Site Logic and Fiori—recommended using a directional fan to dry the central site and allowing additional time for drying. Other areas will be sanded and receive additional coats so the finished gym floor reaches the required finish layers before installation.

Board members and the superintendent also discussed that some listed issues are cosmetic while others have structural implications. The superintendent thanked maintenance, custodial and food-service staff for responding effectively to a weather-related delay and for ensuring student safety while crews worked.

Board members said they are monitoring contractor work and testing results; the board did not take a separate formal action on the gym during this meeting beyond receiving the report and acknowledging contractor recommendations. The board asked staff and the owner’s representative to continue to monitor moisture levels and contractor remediation work before final flooring installation.
