Superintendent Horsley: Budget projections ‘a little bit better’ but challenges remain; public urged to review materials

Superintendent Horsley recorded a brief message at Eisenhower Junior High saying the Granite School District has just finished a study session on budget projections for the upcoming year and that staff will now formalize the figures.

"Things are actually a little bit better than we thought they were going to be, but there are still challenges," Horsley said, adding that the district’s budget officers, Todd Habour and Brian Ipson, will compile the detailed projections after the legislative session ends.

The superintendent urged employees, families and other patrons to watch the recorded presentation or review the materials posted on the district website so they can provide feedback to board members. He noted the District Community Council meeting was taking place and encouraged community members to use the brief window the district has after the legislature adjourns to make their views known.

Horsley framed the goal for the coming budget as producing a plan "in line with the goals of the community" that will allow the district "to continue to provide the best quality education we possibly can for every student." He did not provide specific dollar amounts, staffing changes or line-item adjustments in the message.

The district’s next steps, as described by Horsley, are procedural: budget staff will assemble the numbers, and the board will subsequently review proposals and receive community input. Horsley closed by directing listeners to a link included with the message for the presentation materials and additional details.
