Vallejo housing authority approves midyear budget amendment to cover consultant services and staff training

The Housing and Community Development Commission recommended approval of a mid-year amendment to the housing authority’s FY 2025–26 adopted budget to continue paying a consultant assisting with annual recertifications and to fund training for recently hired staff.
Director Alicia Jones said the amendment moves existing funds within services and supplies and will utilize fund balance or salary savings to continue consultant services and cover training, including a vendor used for training. ‘‘This particular budget amendment is because we use for the housing choice voucher program, we use a consultant to assist us because we’re understaffed,’’ Director Jones said.
A commissioner moved the recommendation and Director Jones seconded; roll-call votes were recorded as ‘‘Aye’’ and the commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the amendment to the Housing Authority Board.
Why it matters: Staff described the amendment as an internal reallocation to maintain program operations while the department continues hiring and training new staff. Commissioners also asked staff to coordinate requested training items with city council support where appropriate.
Follow-up: Director Jones said staff are investigating the commission’s separate work-plan requests and will return with proposals for training content and funding alignment.
