McKeown Commission adopts work plan prioritizing cataloging, approves FY262727 budget

The McKeown Commission voted unanimously to adopt its work plan with a minor wording amendment to the cataloging section and approved its fiscal-year 262727 budget.
Vice Chair Benson moved to adopt the work plan incorporating Commissioner Beecher's edit to change the cataloging sentence to read that a "basic classification system for shelving purposes that is unique to the McKeown was added." Commissioner Beecher seconded the motion. After brief discussion about clarifying historical cataloging language and how the paper catalog was digitized, the commission passed the amended work plan on roll call.
Chair Trumper said adopting the plan clarifies the commission's priorities and will help with recruiting commissioners who have expertise needed for cataloging and preservation work. Commissioners noted that cataloging and public programming (including Art Walk exhibits and youth printing demonstrations using the historic Albion press) will be central to next steps.
Later in the meeting Commissioner Beecher moved to approve the fiscal-year 262727 budget as presented; the motion was seconded and passed on roll call. Commissioners said the budget largely maintains the status quo and that anticipated new work-plan activities would be covered by fundraising and grants rather than additional city general-fund allocations.
The commission set a next regular meeting for April 6 and directed staff to circulate the revised work plan reflecting the agreed wording change.
