The Vallejo Police Oversight and Accountability Commission met in closed session on Feb. 1 to consider three citizen complaints. On reconvening in open session, the chair reported the commission27s recommendations for investigative assignments.
The commission recommended that citizen complaints 2026-01 and 2026-03 be investigated by the Vallejo Police Department27s Internal Affairs/Professional Standards Division. For citizen complaint 2026-04, the commission recommended an outside independent investigator conduct the inquiry.
The city attorney announced the closed-session subject matter and the legal authorities that permit confidential discussion of personnel and complaint matters under California Government Code and Penal Code sections; the commission said there was no other reportable action from the closed session.
Why it matters: The commission27s recommendations determine whether investigations will be handled internally by the department or by independent investigators, a choice that can affect perceived impartiality and public trust. The commission27s report-out provides transparency about the disposition of the reviewed complaints while preserving confidentiality of investigative details.
