Economic Development Commission elects new chair and vice chair

The Vallejo Economic Development Commission on Feb. 11 elected Dwight Monroe to serve as chair and Maylene Garcia as vice chair for the remainder of the current term.

The nominations came during the meeting’s presentation section after commissioners discussed term dates and vacancies. Commissioner Harrell nominated Monroe and Garcia; the nomination was seconded and carried with a 6-0 roll-call vote by the commissioners present.

The leadership votes followed routine roll-call and an opening public forum that produced no speakers. Secretary Yvette reminded the commission that the city clerk’s office is accepting applications to fill board and commission vacancies, with an initial deadline of Feb. 17 that will be extended if the office receives an insufficient pool of applicants.

Commissioners used the leadership transition to thank former chair Lufus for her service. Members highlighted Lufus’s role in projects including Vallejo Main Street and the EDC’s work plan. Chair Monroe acknowledged the tribute and moved the meeting on to discussion of an MRG assessment of city boards and commissions.

The commission did not take additional personnel actions at the meeting. Next steps identified by commissioners included filling vacant seats through the clerk’s office process and continuing agenda items tied to the EDC work plan at future meetings.
