Vallejo honors funk group Confunction with proclamations, keys to the city and street naming

A community ceremony in Vallejo honored funk group Confunction for more than five decades of music and local cultural leadership.
Assemblymember Lori Wilson read portions of a resolution recognizing the group's "more than 5 decades of musical excellence, cultural enrichment, and top flight entertainment," and presented a state-level commendation prepared with Senator Christopher Cabaldon. The city followed with a proclamation and keys to the city for original and representative members.
Mayor Andrea Sorse and other elected officials highlighted Confunction's influence on local culture and youth music programs in Vallejo. Local residents, educators and event organizers recounted memories of the group and celebrated the band's contributions to the city's arts scene.
Family members accepted keys on behalf of original members who were not present, and several local students and artists described their experience participating in public-art and youth programs connected to the celebration. Organizers said an honorary street name and other commemorations are intended to celebrate the group's legacy and encourage continued cultural engagement in Vallejo.
The event combined official recognition from state, county and city levels with community performances and remembrances.
