The Vallejo Commission on Culture and the Arts voted Jan. 26 to recommend that the city council receive its revised work plan and budget requests, including a $200,000 ask for an arts granting program and incorporation of the Measure P project in the commission’s timeline.
Vice Chair Dalia Vidor described the proposed $200,000 grant program as two $100,000 pools—one for arts groups and one for cultural institutions—with an administrative fee to be negotiated; she said past cycles were successful and the commission is proposing to double prior funding levels. "We've asked for double the amount of money so we can split it between the arts groups and arts organizations and cultural institutions," Vidor said.
Commissioners discussed timeline changes, moving some tasks from January and February into March or May to align with city budget timing and implementation capacity. The staff clarified that funding would not be available until the FY 2026–27 budget is approved (after the council’s budget process in April–May), so planning steps can start now but financed activities will wait for appropriation.
Measure P-related work was noted in the draft and several commissioners recommended moving project milestones so planning runs through December 2027 and construction would not be expected to start until 2027 at the earliest.
Vice Chair Vidor moved to approve the work plan with the discussed edits and to forward the budget request to the city council for the March 7, 2026 meeting; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Andrea Hernandez and passed on roll-call vote 7-0.
The commission asked the ad hoc group to deliver finalized edits to staff by the following Monday so the staff report can be prepared for council consideration.
