The legislative committee for ISD 191 agreed Tuesday to send follow-up letters and arrange meetings with state lawmakers after a trip to the Capitol, the Chair said.
"I think it was a worthwhile day at the Hill and that we passed along some really great information," the Chair said, summarizing the delegation's meetings with Representative Ryer and Representative Hansen.
Committee members said the next steps should include extending invitations to legislators to attend an upcoming committee meeting or, if they were unavailable, arranging brief coffee meetings with Dr. Daniels to discuss district priorities and potential impacts of pending bills. One member proposed a follow-up letter that would apologize for missed meetings, offer meeting dates and list legislative committee dates the district could host lawmakers.
Members recommended attaching a document from MSBA and MASA that lists priority bills so legislators can identify measures the district wants them to support or oppose. Committee member 2 said staff contacts Sarah and Aaron could help arrange direct meetings with Dr. Daniels and assist with distributing the attachment.
The committee set a target to finalize the letter with signatures "before the end of the month" or during the first week of April if necessary, and agreed it was preferable to act quickly. Members also approved sending individualized thank-you notes to Representative Hansen and Representative Ryer for meeting with district representatives at the Capitol.
With no further legislative business, the Chair adjourned the committee until its next monthly meeting.
