Vallejo council reports closed‑session direction on three lawsuits, interim city manager

The Vallejo City Council reported that it met in closed session and gave direction to legal counsel on three pending litigation matters and on the interim city manager position; no reportable actions or votes were announced.

The city attorney reported that the council met regarding three litigation matters listed on the agenda: a lawsuit captioned Teck Hai DBA Cigarette City v. City of Vallejo; Hotakai DBA Cigarettes for Less and Check Cashing v. City of Vallejo; and Kimberly Matkins v. City of Vallejo. “With regard to these 3 items the council did give direction to legal counsel and there is no other action to report at this time,” the city attorney said.

The city attorney also read agenda item D, a conference with labor negotiators under Government Code section 54957.6, and identified the agency’s designated representatives as Gillian Hayne, acting city manager; Nalango Connolly, assistant city manager; and Stephanie Su Fuentes, human resources director. The city attorney stated that item was not heard and that there was no action to report on that item.

On item E, public employee employment under Government Code section 54957(b) — titled “interim city manager” on the agenda — the council gave direction but again announced there was no reportable action.

Mayor (presiding) turned the report out to the city attorney, who confirmed the council would report out of closed session in the same room later and that the planning commission would be asked to take a break to accommodate that report-out. The council adjourned the special meeting at 10:11 p.m.
