The Vallejo Commission on Culture and the Arts set a May 14 tour of Mare Island to review artwork held in city storage and prepared to present a Measure P funding request the week before.
During the April meeting staff said the proposed storage tour would run roughly 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on May 14 if public works can be on standby. Commissioners who spoke said they can attend and staff said it would email logistics when public works confirmed the time.
Staff also reported that the Commission’s Measure P request — stated in the meeting as approximately $34,500 — will be presented to the Measure P commission on May 11 at 6 p.m. Staff asked if commissioners could attend the Measure P hearing; staff said Chair Wise and Commissioner Thorson planned to participate in the presentation and that interested commissioners should notify staff.
The Commission handled routine business before those items. Chair Wise moved to approve the meeting agenda; Commissioner Hernandez seconded the motion and the agenda passed on a roll-call vote recorded as 5–0. The Commission also moved to approve the minutes of the March 23, 2026 meeting and recorded unanimous yes votes during the roll call.
Announcements during the meeting included details about the city’s long-running festival on Mare Island (first Saturday in June at the Mare Island Coal Sheds, parade at 10 a.m., free ferry service from Vallejo) and a notice that Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park will hold auditions in May at Hans Park for a production of Richard III; organizers posted details at vallejoshakespeare.org. Staff also reminded commissioners that the May meeting date shifts to Wednesday, May 27, because of a holiday.
Next steps: staff will confirm public-works availability for the May 14 Mare Island tour, circulate logistics by email, and the Commission will present the Measure P funding request to the Measure P commission on May 11.
