The Vallejo Beautification Commission on Tuesday approved a draft 2026 work plan and a tentative schedule for quarterly cleanup events, keeping March 21 as the city'proclaimed Beautify Vallejo Day and setting a June weekend to align with partner groups.
Staff presented a draft of goals, objectives and reporting timelines that will be sent to the City Council as part of the March budget presentation. "If you've had a chance to look it over, if there's any changes that you want to make, let's discuss that tonight, and then I will adjust the reporting for council staff report as needed," the staff secretary said.
Commissioners debated whether to pair commission cleanups with existing community festivals. Commissioner Weyrich noted the city'proclaimed date is fixed by council: "The beautify Vallejo day ... is the first Saturday after the vernal equinox," she said, and commissioners discussed whether to recruit volunteers at the Earth Day festival (April 25) or partner with the Vallejo Watershed Alliance on an April 18 watershed event.
The commission discussed moving the June cleanup to better match partner calendars; commissioners mentioned working with Visit Vallejo and Rooted Vallejo and the Napa Valley Vine Trail to make volunteer sign-ups consistent. Staff advised the commission that dates can be set now and adjusted later to support marketing and volunteer recruitment.
After discussion, the commission voted to approve the tentative calendar, which keeps March 21 as the official Beautify Vallejo Day, lists the first-quarter date as TBD pending Watershed Alliance scheduling, moves the June cleanup to a weekend in late June to coordinate with partners, and retains the established coastal cleanup date in September. The commission asked staff to bring finalized dates back for confirmation at a follow'up meeting.
The action leaves some logistics to be finalized with partner groups; staff said it will communicate final dates once partner schedules are confirmed.
