Board appoints Spencer M. to Peabody Public Library; approves robotics trips

The Whitley County Con Schools board approved two action items by roll-call votes during the meeting.

Appointment to Peabody Public Library: The board considered three candidates and moved to appoint Spencer M. after a motion and second. The meeting recorded the outcome as passing and stated a roll-call tally of five yeses, two nos and one abstain. Individual roll-call entries in the transcript record several members saying yes or no, but not all individual votes were clearly audible in the transcript. Reported individual votes include Dave Smith (yes), James (yes), Lisa (no), Tom (yes), Marian (yes), Jill (yes) and Kate (no); the transcript does not clearly record Chad’s roll-call response. Robotics field trip: The board approved an overnight trip for the Little Turtle Techno Turtles to attend the state VEX Robotics tournament (scheduled Mar. 13–14) and authorized staff to allow the team to attend VEX Worlds in Dallas if they qualify. Seth explained the team qualified at a local invitational and that district and local sponsors (including the Donwood Foundation and several businesses) are supporting travel and fundraising.
