Solano supervisors proclaim March 2025 Women’s History Month; commission stresses equity and birth justice

The Solano County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to proclaim March 2025 as Women’s History Month and to recognize the work of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls.
Chair Mashburn read the resolution and noted the commission’s recent achievements, including a gala that raised more than $40,000 and programs such as the Women and Money conference and a planned Black Maternal Birth Justice symposium.
Rayshonda Madison, vice chair of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls, told the board that ‘‘when we uplift women and girls, we uplift entire communities,’’ and urged that recognition be matched by policies that dismantle long-standing barriers and address health disparities that disproportionately affect women of color.
Wendy Fabian, speaking on behalf of the Friends of the Commission and as a field representative for Assemblymember Lori Wilson, thanked the board for the proclamation and recounted the commission’s history and community programming.
The resolution was adopted by voice vote; the board and commission speakers encouraged continued partnership on maternal health, menstrual education and economic opportunity initiatives.
