Vallejo youth coordinator highlights D.C. student delegation, prevention grant and biotech fair

Victoria Grace Parksdale, Vallejo's youth coordinator, told the 2x2 committee that six students and one chaperone recently attended a youth delegation in Washington, D.C., where students had the opportunity to tour museums, visit congressional offices and attend briefings relevant to Vallejo.
Parksdale said the city was limited to six students this year because of conference capacity and that students from Jesse Bethel High School, Vallejo High School and John Finney High School participated. "One of the highlights for me as a chaperone was just seeing our students grow," Parksdale said.
She also updated the committee on local programming: the Prop 64 grant supporting substance‑use prevention work runs through 2028 and the city is working with Vallejo City Unified School District to extend and possibly expand an MOU with Club Stride to reach additional high schools. Parksdale noted a partnership with a local nonprofit, the Lady Echelon Project, which is hosting a biotech career fair at Solano Community College the next day; organizers expect up to 100 Vallejo High School students, and transportation is provided.
Parksdale closed by offering to bring students back to present at upcoming board meetings and to continue outreach that broadens participation beyond students who are already in leadership programs.
