Garfield honors local cheer teams; Girl Scout presents traffic‑safety plan for Outwater Lane

Council members and the mayor presented proclamations to five Garfield Competition cheer teams — Tiny Twisters, Mini Monsters, Junior Rain, Senior Gold and Senior Bomb Squad — to honor competitive results at regional events, including placements and, in some divisions, national championship finishes at Eastern Cheer and Dance Hershey Nationals. Coaches and parents accepted plaques and the council offered public thanks for volunteer coaching and fundraising.
Later in the meeting Girl Scout cadet Madison Dansfield (Troop 97393) described a take‑action project to improve street signage and install speed tables on Outwater Lane and Prospect Street near a former school site. Madison said current signage is ineffective, cited near‑misses when drivers turn onto Outwater Lane and asked the council to help pursue county approval for changes on the county road. Council members encouraged her to submit a written proposal to Bergen County and offered to include her as a junior member of the city’s Go Green committee to support follow‑through.
Council members praised both the athletes and the youth leader and encouraged continued civic involvement.
