Hackensack wins CDBG award for Union Street; city updates on paving, ADA and park warning system

Other project updates from Ryan: • DOT local-aid paving and the remainder of the city-funded paving program have been pushed to spring. • Baldwin Park ADA upgrades are scheduled for the spring. • Pre-construction for Grand Avenue pedestrian improvements is scheduled for next week. • Musco field-lighting foundations are in place and building-department inspection is scheduled; concrete pouring will begin with favorable weather. • Municipal court construction completed framing and electrical inspections; ballistic shielding and transaction windows are installed and drywall work is underway. • DPW garage infrared heater replacement is planned with a contractor preparing to start work.
Ryan also described a partnership with the Board of Education to install an outdoor warning system (audio/visual PA systems with strobes, lightning detection and sensors) at several parks and all Board of Education locations; Bergen County Open Space provided funding for the project and the city scheduled a meeting with the vendor, identified in the transcript as Perryweather.
Why it matters: these projects affect sidewalks, accessibility, school and park safety, street conditions and public facilities; timely implementation affects residents, pedestrians, schools and nearby businesses.
