Two public commenters addressed the commission during the meeting.
Mr. Steve Green urged officials and residents to restore the Sierra County Spaceport Visitor Center to the downtown Leavell Johnson location and to contact state legislators and the governor to support funding for repairs listed on the city's ICIP. Green argued the downtown historic hot springs district "cannot and should not be measured by dollars alone" and said a spaceport visitor center "anywhere in zone one does nothing to showcase who we are."
Kathleen Sloan spoke during public comment about Talon Septic, which was on the agenda. She asked whether Talon Septic holds an NPDES permit and where any effluent or sludge from that operation will be disposed. Sloan said the city is planning a $5.5 million wastewater treatment plant upgrade and raised concern that private sludge disposal could compete with city plans. She also asked whether Destiny Mitchell's role as head of the Chamber of Commerce and prior payments for Fiesta management constituted a conflict of interest with use of city space and public funds.
The commission acknowledged the comments and the city manager said staff would address several of those questions during the relevant agenda items. No formal findings or votes were taken on the public comments themselves.
