Germantown trustees postpone vote on equity pay increase for fire chief
Summary

Trustees voted to postpone consideration of an equity salary adjustment for Fire Chief Delane until the April General Government & Finance meeting so the board can review more complete compensation data.
Chief Delane joined by Webex and explained that police captains recently hired were started at higher pay levels than his current $115,000 salary; the requested increment would raise his pay to $125,000, while a regional survey cited an average fire-chief salary near $139,000. Former administrator Krecklow originally forwarded the recommendation, staff said.
Several trustees asked for context before approving any change: a year-to-date summary of salaries and benefits, overtime trends for public safety (presented with and without overtime), and where the Fire Chief would sit in proposed pay grades. Trustee Kaminski and others said they were open to the principle but wanted the fuller fiscal picture and the implications for the 2027 budget.
The committee moved and seconded a motion to postpone the matter to the April 20 GGF meeting; staff committed to provide the requested salary and overtime comparisons and to include pay-grade recommendations for the board’s review.
