The Hillsborough Township Public School District board opened its Sept. 8, 2025 meeting with a superintendent’s update that emphasized two district priorities for the year: an ongoing redistricting process and early public outreach about the 2027–28 budget.
“I want to make sure that everybody here in Hillsborough knows that we have a weekly email that comes out of my office that's called Hillsborough Happenings,” the superintendent said, urging residents to subscribe for regular redistricting and budget updates. He added that Mr. Handler will present monthly updates to the public and that the district hopes to notify families about next-year school assignments by spring break.
The board also agreed to move a regularly scheduled meeting from Sept. 22 to Sept. 29 to avoid a conflict with Rosh Hashanah observance. “If there is anybody who was exercising their religious rights … they wouldn't be able to attend,” Mr. Rob said, proposing the change and noting the governance committee raised no objection in an email thread; he added, “we apologize for my ignorance in suggesting the date.” The board indicated the shift did not require a formal vote and the change was made by consensus.
On routine business, the board approved minutes for items listed on the agenda and adopted a series of motions across education, human resources and operations. Education approvals included travel and field-trip destinations and the long-term suspensions of students whose names are on file with the superintendent. Human-resources items included resignations, appointments, revised appointments, bus-driver assignments and extra-period coverage. Operations approvals included line-item transfers, monthly financial statements, an Eagle Scout project at Autin Road Intermediate School, a change order with Spartan Construction, an agreement with Gaggle Net Incorporated, and the disposal and sale of obsolete equipment. Roll-call votes were recorded for the motions and each motion passed.
During the second public-comment period, a resident urged community support for Home & School Associations and highlighted middle-school back-to-school nights and an upcoming Rita’s dine-out fundraiser tied to Hillsborough Middle School’s 50th anniversary. Later in the meeting, Cassie Montoy, introduced as the new student representative and a senior at Hillsborough High School, thanked the board and said she looked forward to participating.
The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was seconded and approved. No formal action on redistricting or the 2027–28 budget was taken beyond the superintendent’s announcements and the scheduling of committee-level discussions and community outreach.
