Boone County staff announce retirement of longtime official; routine approvals completed

The Boone County board approved routine business including the Feb. 20 minutes and a claim of $4,140 after motion, second and voice approval with no recorded opposition.
During the meeting a member announced that Brian Colton is retiring; colleagues praised his institutional knowledge, particularly regarding the Anson area, and said replacing his experience will be a heavy lift. No personnel action was taken at the meeting; staff said they will manage the transition internally.
Staff updated the board that the Merit project bonds have not yet closed and that signatures and a construction loan closing remain outstanding; staff expects closing possibly by late March or April. The board confirmed its next meeting for April 17 at 10:00 a.m. and asked staff to circulate the revised bond resolution and supporting calculations before that date.
Staff also said Shelby Farthing with the Economic Development Corporation may present an abatement proposal related to an Anson-area project; staff recommended the developer present to the Town of Whitestown first and said the EDC will prepare a formal request if appropriate.
The meeting adjourned after a routine motion to close.
