Kenai council approves new permitting software to move permits online

The Kenai City Council on March 18 adopted Resolution 2026-16 authorizing the purchase and implementation of permitting software to move building, planning and other permit functions to a web portal.
Lee, the staff member leading the project, said the city selected a solution with building-code integrations and plans to connect the software to Laserfiche records management and the city's finance system to accept online payments and archive completed permits automatically. “What we’re looking to do here is install and implement permitting software… the goal is that it’s going to be a web portal. People can go online, submit for all these permits,” Lee said. City Manager Eubank added the system will also eventually handle taxi licenses, mobile food vendor permits and other clerk-office permits.
Council members supported the change as a modernization of city services and asked staff to preserve paper and assisted options during rollout for residents without reliable internet access; staff proposed exploring library terminals or in-person assistance while the portal is implemented. The resolution was adopted by unanimous consent.
