The Montgomery Planning & Zoning Commission on March 16 recommended that city council approve a special-use permit to allow a nail salon at 15325 Summit Park Drive, Suite 106.
Staff described the nail salon as a small-scale, low-impact personal-service business consistent with the comprehensive plan. The applicant said the salon will be roughly 1,200 square feet and operate 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Monday–Saturday, closed Sundays; the tenant cited a five-year lease term.
Commission discussion focused on parking calculations (staff said the nail salon requires roughly six parking spaces under the commercial calculation used for personal services) and whether conditions similar to the coffee-shop recommendation should apply. Commissioners noted that the property owner leases the suites and that fire and health reviews remain part of the permitting pathway.
A commissioner moved and the commission voted to forward the recommended special-use permit and staff conditions to city council for final action. The recommendation includes limits on hours of operation, compliance with parking and safety regulations, and notification that changes to the permitted use or ownership should return to the commission for review.
Next steps: the item will be scheduled for Montgomery City Council consideration; the applicant must obtain required building, fire and health approvals as part of the follow-on permitting process.
