Kenai approves MOA with Alaska DOT to move forward on Wildwood Drive pavement preservation

The Kenai City Council on March 18 adopted Resolution 2026-15 authorizing the city manager to enter a memorandum of agreement with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to advance the Wildwood Drive pavement preservation project.
City Manager Eubank told the council the agreement is required by the funding source and stems from ongoing coordination with DOT: “This is an agreement that was provided to us by the state Department of Transportation. We’ve been working with DOT… it is labeled as, if not one of the worst roads here in town.” He said internal staff from public works, planning and legal had reviewed the terms and that the Wildwood project will likely be combined with the U Spur highway reconstruction effort.
Council members praised administration for securing the partnership. Eubank said the combined work could be scheduled across the 2026 and 2027 construction seasons but that the final schedule will be determined by the contractor and DOT. The council adopted the resolution by unanimous consent.
Next steps identified by staff include finalizing plan-sheet amendments requested by DOT and executing the MOA so the project can move into procurement and scheduling with state partners.
