Delray Beach swears in two new commissioners; Burns chosen vice mayor

Delray Beach held a special City Commission meeting March 26 to swear in two newly elected commissioners and to select leadership for the coming year. Judy Malika and Angela Burns each took the oath of office and immediately took their seats on the dais.

During the oath, Judy Malika repeated the required affirmation to “support and defend the Constitution of the government of the United States and the state of Florida and the charter and laws of the city of Delray Beach,” after which colleagues applauded. Angela Burns likewise affirmed her qualifications under state law and the city charter before being congratulated by the mayor and commissioners.

After seating the newly sworn members, the clerk conducted a second roll call and declared a quorum present. Commissioners then moved through nominations for leadership positions. Angela Burns was nominated and approved by voice vote as vice mayor for the term beginning March 26, 2026; Tom Marker was later confirmed as deputy vice mayor. The commission also named leadership for the Community Redevelopment Agency and designated delegates to the Palm Beach County League of Cities and the Palm Beach Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The leadership votes were conducted by nomination and voice vote; no roll‑call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript. The swearing‑in and appointments concluded with brief congratulatory remarks from commissioners and a call to move on to other agenda items.
