The presenter said current chip prices make the CDW purchase a significant line-item but that the district obtained a favorable price for the initial two cohorts.
Staff also described considering optional parent-paid insurance offered through the vendor as an alternative to district repair costs; district technicians perform repairs in-house and keep older devices for parts. Microsoft licensing and other software procurement will be centralized under technology to avoid redundancy and to ensure compliance with student-data privacy requirements; staff said they roster student accounts through Clever for secure single sign-on.
The board discussed device turnover, potential insurance logistics and the work required by the technology department to centralize licensing. Staff identified Mr. Renwick as the primary technology staff handling the effort.
No formal purchase vote was taken at the work session; the Chromebook contract and related licensing items are on the upcoming board agenda for approval.
