Woodland Park School District appoints Ginger Slook as superintendent

The Woodland Park School District RE-2 Board of Education on Monday voted to appoint Ginger Slook as the district’s superintendent, citing the district’s finalist-notice process under CRS 24-6-402 3.5.
“Thank you, members of the Board of Education, and thank you to the Woodland Park staff and community for your trust and confidence,” Slook said after the board’s roll-call vote. “I’m deeply honored to accept the role as your Woodland Park School District Superintendent.”
The board adopted a resolution naming finalists and selecting Slook; the motion carried by roll call with all voting members recorded as Aye (Barkley, Davidson, Gilgenest, Gordon and Greenstreet). The resolution referenced the board’s consideration of in-district finalists and the statutory notice period under CRS 24-6-402 3.5.
Slook told the board she had spent the previous eight months meeting with parents, teachers, students and community members and said those conversations reinforced a shared commitment to the district. “From this foundation, I will lead us into a strong future with relational stability, valued transparency, fiscal responsibility, and respectful governance,” she said.
Board members said they felt the finalist process and community forum provided necessary input. Several members thanked the search firm (identified in remarks as Grundmeyer) and named staff who helped present candidates.
Although Slook has been appointed by resolution, board members postponed final approval of her employment contract so the document can be reviewed and redlined by the district attorney and returned to the board for final action. The board said the current contract must be clarified on items including benefit placeholders, a referenced evaluation date and language reflecting that the district — not the board personally — will carry certain obligations.
The board adjourned the special meeting and scheduled follow-up work on the contract prior to the July 1 start of the new term. The contract review and final approval are expected to be handled by the board and the district attorney before the effective date.
