Chico Unified board adopts governance handbook edits; changes wording on grand-jury referral

Citing Government Code section 54963 (Brown Act), a district adviser noted the statute uses 'may' rather than 'will' regarding referral to the grand jury; a board motion to change the handbook wording from 'will cause the referral' to 'may cause the referral' was put on the record and approved.
Trustees said most of the other changes were editorial — correcting italics, bulleted lists and inconsistent formatting — and that staff will produce a cleaned PDF reflecting the edits. The board voted to adopt the handbook with the discussed changes.
The board also discussed expectations for members who are asked to speak to community groups and whether notification of other trustees should be mandatory or a professional courtesy; the handbook wording will be clarified to reflect the board’s intent.
