District recognizes safety officer, teachers and facilities manager at board meeting

The Colton Joint Unified School District recognized several employees for September service at its Oct. 2 board meeting, honoring a district safety officer, certificated staff and a facilities project manager.

Eric Ciso, director of human resources classified, introduced District Safety Officer Jordan Scott of Terrace Hills Middle School and read a nomination describing his rapport with students and programs such as "Frozone Friday," a weekly lunchtime trivia tradition. "Jordan Scott is not only a familiar presence, he is a centerpiece of the school community," the nomination read. Jordan Scott told the board, "I'm a product of this district," and said the recognition was "overwhelming." He noted earlier roles with Think Together and his pride in serving students where he grew up.

The board also honored Relle Lloyd, ASB director and English teacher at Colton Middle School, for leadership on PBIS, orientation, gate coordination and after-school activities. Dr. Rosanna Hernandez presented Lloyd with remarks noting the teachers long volunteer service and positive impact on school culture.

Facilities project manager Diane Mendes was recognized for overseeing construction of five new TK/K classrooms at Grimes Elementary, keeping projects "on time, on budget, and on schedule," according to Director of Facilities Owen Jang. Mendes thanked the board and said facilities work directly supports student success.

All honorees received board applause; no motions or votes were associated with the recognitions.
