Commission conditionally approves 36 liquor-license renewals after objection to one application

The Kane County Liquor Control Commission on March 19 conditionally approved 36 annual liquor-license renewals, but a commissioner raised an unexplained objection to one applicant, Blackjacks.

County staff member Mr. O'Brien presented a spreadsheet listing 36 renewal applications and told the panel the only exceptions were that Plank Road Tap and Tana Tap had not yet paid their application fees. Mr. O'Brien said any approval would be conditional on receipt of those payments and that local licensing is a prerequisite to applying for a state license.

The commission discussed whether the renewals should proceed as a consent agenda item. One commissioner said only that they objected to applicant number four (Blackjacks) but did not elaborate; staff noted Blackjacks had been previously granted a license on Jan. 14, 2026 that covered January through the commission’s fiscal year end on March 31, and that Blackjacks had filed a renewal application in order.

After discussion, the commission voted to approve the renewals with the two unpaid applications held conditional on payment. The clerk called the roll; the three commissioners present recorded unanimous approval.

Mr. O'Brien explained the practical effect of nonpayment: businesses without a renewed local license would not be authorized to operate when the new license period began on April 1, and a local license must be issued before the state application can be submitted.

The commission took no further action on the Blackjacks objection at the meeting and moved on to other items on the agenda.
