FCPS Racial Equity Committee sets April 14 community resource fair, student panel; invites county officials

Members agreed on a run of show: 6:00–6:30 p.m. for vendor networking and resource browsing, a 6:30 p.m. opening with leadership remarks, and a student panel and facilitated activities thereafter. The event is scheduled at West Frederick Middle School from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will include table tents to help attendees find specific services, a SignUpGenius for coordination and requests for snack and supply donations.
The committee reported slow RSVP returns from community groups and decided to rework email templates, assign subgroup callers and make hard phone calls to confirm attendance. Members said last year's fair had about 10–12 groups in attendance and stressed diligence in outreach to ensure adequate turnout in a polarized environment.
The student panel will feature students representing school-based racial-equity initiatives (student voice programs, No Place for Hate, Black Student Union, Muslim Student Association, etc.). Dr. Artist (committee member) will coordinate questions and suggested providing students the questions in advance to reduce anxiety. The committee discussed recruiting at least one student from each high school but estimated last year had six of 10 high schools represented.
The committee also noted May will include elections for officers and the executive board per bylaws; members were encouraged to consider leadership roles and request position information ahead of the May meeting.
Procedural actions taken by the committee included adoption of the Feb. 4 meeting minutes and approval of the proposed agenda by consent when quorum was achieved; the meeting adjourned at 6:44 p.m. by unanimous consent.
