Seaford council on March 10 ratified the city’s March 2 settlement that acquired approximately 0.42 acres at 121 South Conwell Street for $150,000. City staff said the parcel sits adjacent to Oyster House Park and will help ensure the interceptor sewer project can be completed cost‑effectively and lifted out of the floodplain.
Staff reported the Nanakoke Watershed Alliance and the Chesapeake Conservancy pooled funds to acquire the property; the Alliance will use the house as a local headquarters. The city’s portion was the rear half of the subdivided lot. The city manager and staff worked with the Siler family during closing; staff thanked Randall Larore for assistance in negotiations.
Councilman Holland moved to ratify closing, authorize the city manager to finalize minor edits to the purchase agreement as needed and empower the mayor and city manager to execute closing documents consistent with prior executive‑session authorization. Councilwoman Grasset seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Staff said the parcel will be integrated into Oyster House Park planning and that site cleanup and maintenance tasks are already under way.
