El Rancho Unified elects new board president and reassigns committee seats in unanimous reorganization vote

El Rancho Unified’s Board of Education completed its annual reorganization on Dec. 16, electing Mr. Ector Lafare as board president for 2026 and reappointing Christine Sedra as vice president and clerk.
The board amended the meeting agenda to reorder recognitions, then proceeded through nominations and roll-call votes on leadership positions and committee assignments. All the nominations discussed during the organization portion of the meeting passed by unanimous roll-call vote.
Trustees also adopted the district’s 2026 meeting calendar and appointed board members and alternates to several external bodies and internal committees, including the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization (LEO), Los Angeles County School Trustees Association (LAXA), Whittier Area School Trustee Association (WASA), Tri Cities Regional Occupational Board, joint city–district safety and joint-use committees, workforce development and environmental sustainability committees.
Why it matters: Leadership transitions establish who will represent the board for the coming year and determine committee representation that drives interagency coordination on facilities, safety, workforce and legislative matters.
What’s next: The board will meet in the new configuration in 2026, with committee work and liaisons expected to report back on priorities including safety, joint-use agreements and facilities planning.
