Chico Unified honors Superintendent Kelly Staley as she retires after 24 years with district

Board members read a proclamation honoring Staley’s 24 years with the district — 16 of them as superintendent — and recounted her contributions to student services, district stability and regional education organizations. The proclamation cited roles including service on the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team and regional and statewide education boards.
Trustees and community partners praised Staley for steady leadership, staff development, and responsiveness to families. "She is a gather the facts, assess the options, and make a decision then move on woman," one trustee said during remarks. Colleagues also presented gifts and a standing applause from attendees.
Staley accepted the tribute and emphasized the district’s staff and the team she called her family. She said she planned to remain connected to schools and offered to help in volunteer capacities after retirement.
The recognition was one of several ceremonial and community-focused agenda items that evening, including superintendent awards for program staff and student presentations from the district’s expanded-learning summer program.
