Board of Elections approves moving Shenango Township’s 3rd District polling place to South Newcastle Fire Hall

The Lawrence County Board of Elections voted 2-0 on March 10 to relocate the polling place for the Third District of Shenango Township to the South Newcastle Fire Hall at 104 West Buyers Avenue.
Dan explained that the change follows a court order by President Judge Cox approving the merger of the former South Newcastle Borough into Shenango Township and subsequent review and sign-off by the Department of State. The board’s formal action was Resolution 4, which, if implemented, moves the Third District polling location from the Shenango Sports Complex to the fire hall.
Tim Geriney, the election director, said the office had coordinated with township and fire-department officials and expected the new location to better serve voters in the consolidated district. "I feel that keeping that at the fire hall ... it'll be beneficial by keeping it in that location. I have heard no opposition," Geriney said.
The board adopted the resolution by roll call after a motion and second; Commissioners Kennedy and Bogler voted yes. The board noted the statutory notice requirements and that the election office will notify affected voters and perform five required public postings under election code 25 PS 2726.
The board asked the election office or staff to inform the Shenango supervisors of the action as a courtesy. With no members of the public present for comment, the board adjourned after completing the item.
