The Galena City Council on March 9 approved a package of routine items, including renewal of liquor licenses for the May 1, 2026–April 30, 2027 licensing year, the second reading of an ordinance authorizing sale of municipal personal property (including a 2018 John Deere 524 loader with a $110,000 minimum bid), and acceptance of the 2025–26 year‑end report for the archery deer‑hunting program along with approval of the 2026–27 program.
Council members moved and seconded the consent agenda and individual items where required, and the motions passed on roll call. Members noted that licenses will not be issued until all paperwork is in order, and they discussed limits on adding more hunting spaces in town because of DNR and state restrictions on where hunting can occur.
During the warrants discussion council clarified that a referenced $10,000 earnest money payment in a purchase contract relates to the new police‑station transaction; Bob Rose, representing the seller, confirmed that the $10,000 is earnest money. Mayor also announced that a proposed budget will be distributed to council members the following week and introduced the city’s incoming engineer, Bryson Winsky, who was unable to attend this meeting but is scheduled to appear at the next meeting.
