Because last year’s market filled much of the square, staff said the American Legion and VFW — which run the Veterans Memorial procession and service — are exploring an alternate staging location and are coordinating with city staff.
Committee members raised no objections during the meeting and staff said the event falls on Sunbury’s list of pre‑approved street closures (West Granville Street between Columbus and Vernon) and will follow the established events-to-parks process rather than requiring full council action unless conditions change.
The committee also discussed two upcoming disc‑golf events at Kinslow. Staff said a daytime May event does not require council review, but the evening “Kinslow Light It Up” event will need council approval because city parks close at dusk. The Entangi Disc Club, which the city described as a regular partner, charges a modest admission to support the event and helps maintain the course. Staff said organizers post signage and notify the police about 24 hours before nighttime events.
No formal objection was recorded; staff will notify the committee if the Veterans procession confirms a revised location or if any event details change that would require council action.
