Organizers of the Olympia-Lacey fan zone told the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners on March 25 that the event will be staged at the Port Plaza behind the viewing tower and farmers market, a shift organizers said improves logistics, traffic control and connectivity to local businesses.
"We moved the fan zone to the Port Plaza because the plaza already has a lot of the logistics that we needed," Jenny Folia Jones, event coordinator working with the Thurston County Chamber, said during the presentation. She said the location keeps attendees adjacent to the boardwalk and market so visitors can both attend fan-zone programming and patronize local shops and restaurants.
