A Parlier resident reported that a contractor, Unwired, dug a hole in a private yard and did not refill it, leaving an elderly homeowner exposed to a hazard.
"They made a hole. They digged a hole in the yard and they never went back and filled it up," the resident said during the public-comment period, asking the city to remedy the situation. City staff responded that public works inspectors are following Unwired's crews and that the contractor is required to restore affected properties to city standards.
Officials noted the work tied to the project could encompass many locations; staff referenced a previously stated estimate of about 800 locations associated with the audit and follow-up work. Council discussed enforcement options, including inspecting work, pulling bonds if they exist, or hiring contractors to do the repairs and seeking reimbursement from Unwired if the company fails to complete its obligations.
The mayor and staff said they will have public works inspect the specific address and place the item on Javier's list for follow-up when he returns. No formal enforcement action was announced at the meeting; staff indicated they would check whether bonds are in place and report back.
The council also encouraged residents to continue reporting incomplete or unsafe work so staff can document damage and pursue contractor compliance.
