Carroll County highlights districtwide professional learning and all-schools STEM certification

District instructional leaders presented an update on professional learning and STEM initiatives at the work session.
Dr. Jessica Ainsworth introduced a professional learning update delivered by Cheryl Clark, the district’s director of professional learning, assessment, STEM and instructional programs. Clark said the district’s professional learning strategy emphasizes sustained growth, collaboration, and alignment to district priorities rather than one-time workshops.
Catalina Wright, instructional technology specialist, described AI training for district and building administrators, a professional learning studio featuring monthly tech talks and focus sessions on instructional tools, and targeted support for fidelity of district-adopted platforms. Wright noted Carroll County staff have shared their innovations at state and international conferences.
Anna Ellis, a STEM teacher at Sharp Creek Elementary, highlighted quarterly STEM teacher professional learning, collaborative planning, and a district STEM night that showcased student innovation and family engagement. Board members recognized the work: the chair and other members acknowledged that Clark led the district to have all schools nationally STEM certified, noting it is rare for an entire district to hold that designation.
Staff also asked the board to renew the West Georgia RESA agreement and place the item on the consent agenda to continue professional learning supports that include computer science and gifted endorsements.
What happens next: the West Georgia RESA renewal was scheduled to be placed on the consent agenda for the next board meeting; board members asked questions and praised the district’s work.
