Administrator Jeremy updated the finance committee on capital and grant activity, highlighting three grant efforts tied to county capital projects.
Jeremy said the county submitted a $7.1 million application to the U.S. Department of Transportation BUILD program for the new highway facility. He said the county also submitted a community-project funding request through Congressman Lhood's office (a repeat submission for a project previously advanced by that office) and plans to submit a congressionally directed request through Senator Duckworth's portal to fund a generator project at the new courts building.
Jeremy explained the generator work was accelerated after a recent transformer upgrade and a routine power-down identified that the new courts building's generator did not supply sufficient power for essential operations; the grant would provide resiliency for the health department and the county's emergency operations center.
Separately, Jeremy said the county will advertise a notice to bid for a retaining-wall/capital repair between the 911 center and the maintenance facility; the project is budgeted in the county's capital plan. Staff said BUILD awards are typically announced in the fall but may come earlier this cycle, and the county will update the committee as awards and bid responses arrive.
No votes were taken on grants at the meeting; staff will return with award notifications or further procurement steps.
