The Lancaster County Planning Commission recommended approval of a rezoning request for a parcel at 1553 Pageland Highway (RZ 2025‑2735, applicant Charles Roberts) at its March 17 meeting and will forward the record to county council for final action.
Staff explained the parcel is currently zoned General Business but is a nonconforming residential use; the owner seeks low‑density residential zoning so he can place a storage shed on the property (an expansion of residential use is not permitted while the site remains zoned commercial). Staff said Low Density Residential is a permissible district under the parcel’s growth‑area future land‑use designation and recommended approval.
No members of the public signed up to speak on the item. A motion to recommend approval passed by a show‑of‑hands vote and was recorded as unanimous (4–0). The commission’s recommendation and the transcript will be forwarded to Lancaster County Council for the final decision; the applicant will be notified of the council hearing date and time.
